Critter Gitter Animal Chart
(how well it works on specific animal groups)
*As reported by our customers
Critter Gitter has varied success at repelling unwanted animals. It
works great on some, well but not so great on others, well on some and
not at all on others.
This chart is derived from customer reports over many years.
There are several factors determining the usefulness of the Critter Gitter but One factor is "how wild is the animal". For Example: Semi-wild city dwellers are less likely to take the Critter Gitter's sound as something dangerous than an animal raised in an area humans rarely visit.
Placement also has an influence on how much it frightens the animal. For example; If the Critter Gitter is located close to the ground, a bear might perceive it as a small threat whereas if it is placed at the bear's chest level or a bit higher, the perception might be of a threat from a larger animal. If it were placed say 10 feet above the ground pointing at an area, the animal would know the threat is above him and might ignore the sound.
Another factor is which direction the Critter Gitter is facing. Say you had a wall 20 feet long that has two windows and a door that you want to protect from bear entry and you place the Critter Gitter say 30 feet away from the wall pointing at the wall because you want to protect all three entry points. If a bear approached the wall, the Critter Gitter's noise would be coming from behind the bear. But, if the Critter Gitter was placed in the center of the wall pointing away from the wall and a bear approached, the Critter Gitter's sound would be coming from in front of the bear. In this scenario, the bear is less likely to try to gain entry into the building if the perceived threat is in front of him than if it is behind him.
Placement needs to be "tailored" to the environment and the animals you wish to repel.
